Director’s Profile – Meg Lansaw

Self taught filmmaker, Meg Lansaw, was born in Huntington, West Virginia on September 20, 1976. Throughout childhood she wrote short stories, performed in plays, studied art and shot homemade movies. Her passion for creativity transitioned her to The Ohio State University in 1994, where she majored in photography. Lansaw’s work primarily consisted of photographic series where the images told a continuous story…much like film stills.  Upon graduating in 2000, Lansaw realized that the culmination of her interests equaled filmmaking.

Lansaw's determination to build a career in the entertainment industry relocated her to Wilmington, North Carolina in 2001. There she began her journey by volunteering for The Cucalorus Film Festival and working various jobs on television shows and independent films.  In 2003, Lansaw launched her production company, Kissin’ Cousins Productions, with her debut short film “The Complex”. Produced for merely $35, “The Complex” was shot entirely at the apartment complex where she lived and worked. In 2005, Lansaw wrote, directed and produced a more ambitious short film, “80 Windows”, which was inspired by a song of the same name by the band Nada Surf. “80 Windows” was personally recognized by the band and played at four film festivals including LA Shorts Fest.  In 2007, Lansaw wrote, directed and produced her most personal short film to date, “wait…” The script was loosely based on a traumatic event in which Lansaw and her sister were almost murdered at their parent’s West Virginia home in 1995. “wait…” has had numerous private screenings, including her hometown’s Huntington Museum of Art, and has screened at festivals such as The Charlotte Film Festival.

Currently, Lansaw serves as the Secretary of Cucalorus Film Festival’s Board of Directors and as a festival shorts programmer. Recently she has been working as a production assistant on various projects such as “Eastbound and Down”, “The Secret Life of Bees”, “Nights in Rodanthe” and “Cabin Fever 2”.   Lansaw’s upcoming project is her debut feature film “11:11”, which received the 2nd place screenplay award at the 2008 Appalachian Film Festival. Kissin’ Cousins is currently seeking funding for this film and wishes to begin production in 2010 and release on 11-11-11.
